Breathing New Life Into Lakes – Environmentalist Foundation of India

Environmentalist Foundation of India (E.F.I) is a wildlife conservation and habitat restoration group. A not for profit trust, E.F.I focuses on real-time and result oriented conservation efforts

E.F.I is known for its work in cleaning & scientific restoration of lakes & ponds in India for biodiversity. E.F.I has restored 107 water bodies in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Pondicherry and Gujarat in the last 12 years (2007 to 2019).

In October 2019, the Konneri Tank at the heritage town of Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu was E.F.I’s 100th restoration effort. This pond was taken up for restoration to commemorate the historic Indo-China summit 2019 at Mamallapuram.

E.F.I strongly believes in a community based conservation effort, which involves the local community around the water body in clean up and awareness drives, ensuring the sustainability of the restoration effort.

In addition to this, a variety of volunteering drives are organized across the country to engage all nature enthusiasts in conservation. E.F.I strives to involve & motivate fellow Indians in understanding the need for conserving our natural habitats.

Volunteering activities include:

  • Beach/lake/pond Clean ups
  • Wall-E Awareness Wall Paintings- An awareness wall painting initiative to popularize India’s wildlife and natural habitats.
  • ForsTree Plantations- A native sapling plantation drive
  • Lake Safari- An ecological tour to the lakes in our neighborhood.
  • Cyclakes- For those who wish to combine their fitness agenda with passion for environment, weekend based cycle tours to lakes and habitats to understand the intrinsic characteristics of these natural wonders.

Environmental Film Association the communication wing @ E.F.I makes weekly infotainment videos on India’s Environment and long form documentary films for large scale public awareness and sensitization. The weekly episodes can be viewed at E.F.I’s YouTube Channel and the documentary films are screened regularly at public and private venues.

How to participate?

E.F.I organizes environment volunteering programs every weekend. From Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram, Bengal to Gujarat we are volunteering at a lake/pond/beach/forest near you. Take time out over weekends to join a gang of nation builders, nature enthusiasts to conserve what is left.
