Oriental garden lizard (Calotes versicolour)

The oriental garden lizard is found numerous places in the world, although they do look a bit different from each other due to adaption. This garden lizard grows around 36 cm. very quick and agile in their movement they sprint from one shady area to the next.

They are generally found in forests and shrub land now also getting used to urban areas. During breeding season the males acquire a dark red to black colouration on their necks. This has also given them a funny nickname as ‘bloodsuckers’ in small villages. This brings fear to the locals, which is not true as just like other lizards they eat insects and small vertebrates.
