Sambar Deer

Sambar is India’s largest deer. They have a long tail and a dark coat compared to other members of the same species.
Sambars are often known to feed in shallow water and when chased by predators, especially the Wild Dogs (Dholes) – they take to water, splashing loudly with their hooves just to confuse their attackers. They also prefer to rest by river and stream banks and prefer to graze in undulating surface just to protect themselves from any attacks. Despite their exceptionally large size, they move within the forests very silently.
