Not a big family, after all

It is a misconception to think that wolf are pack hunters. There has been rare spotting of pack size of 30 or more, but usually it consists of litters from the current brood and from the one just before (last year’s litter), making it anywhere between 5 and 11.
They are also highly capable of hunting all alone; but if the breeding pair hunts an animal in a herd, one wolf separates the animal from the herd and the other brings it down. The breeding pair monopolises the kill first before letting the others feed.
