Indian Hare

India does not have a rabbit species; what maybe called rabbits (if spotted in the wild) could be hares. Hares do not build nests on the ground.
Instead, they scrape out ‘forms’ or shallow depressions on the ground while Rabbits are known to build nests. The young hares are born furred with their eyes open. A very territorial hare could defend a large territory against rival males. They are also known to use several shelters, with new ‘forms’ built even within a day.
