Where is Karni Mata Temple

The Karni Mata Temple, located in Deshnoke (near Bikaner, Rajasthan), is dedicated to a goddess of the same name. However, its popularity is derived from the several thousand rats that live – and are worshipped – in the temple premises.
Legend has it that Karni Mata’s son drowned in a pond while he was attempting to drink water from it. The bereaved goddess implored the god of death to restore her son back to life. Her prayers were granted eventually, and her son and his male lineage are said to have been reincarnated as rats. So sacred are the rats here that if any one of them is killed, it must be replaced with one made of solid silver. There are a few white rats in the temple that are regarded as being especially holy, since they are believed to be the manifestations of Karni Mata and her four sons. Hence, getting a glimpse of them is seen as a sign of a special blessing.
